Potential Product Safety Issue
Select 80% Gas Furnace Heat Exchanger
A recent furnace returned on a product report
revealed an incomplete crimp between the leaving end of the heat exchanger tube
and the vestibule panel. Our investigation revealed one heat exchanger crimping
machine was involved with this problem. Therefore, the problem was restricted
to one machine; we have limited this alert to 17” B cabinet width, and 21” C
cabinet width, 80% efficiency, tubular heat exchanger furnaces only, produced
in Wichita during May, June and July 2001 (WFKM, WGKM serial prefix). We are
in the process of inspecting 100% of these products to verify the crimping process.
YORK has reported this issue to the U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission.
A MANDATORY INSPECTION OF ALL INSTALLED FURNACES WITHIN THE AFFECTED MODEL &
SERIAL NUMBER RANGE OF UNITS, IS ALSO REQUIRED. Dealers who have received furnaces
within the affected serial range are being notified via certified mailings,
the affected serial numbers and recipients are being determined.
If the crimp is defective, the furnace must
be replaced and returned to the factory.
